Principles of
Machine Guarding
Course
Description:
This course
familiarizes students with various types of common machinery
and the related OSHA safety standards The course presents
an approach to machine inspection that enables participants
to recognize hazards such as those created by points
of operation, rotating, reciprocating, and other machine
function which may allow an operator to be in danger
of pinch points or flying sparks, chips or materials.
Course
Highlights:

A review
of commonly used machines such as mechanical power
presses, milling machines, drill presses,
shears, press breaks, hand held power tools, power
transmission equipment, woodworking equipment
and robotics.

The
use of an effective Lock-out/Tag-out program for
operators, die changers, maintenance persons and
outside contractors.

Each
student will receive:

Course
manual, which includes the OSHA General Industry
Machine Guarding Standards, manufacturers
data and selected overheads.

A
course completion certificate.

Objectives:
Students
should be able to:

Understand
and identify various types of machine guarding devices,
their limitation, use, and inspection.

Identify
conditions where lock-out/tag-out procedures are
necessary and are effective.

Perform
a machine guarding audit in their respective work
